PINA is an interdisciplinary competence centre for early childhood education research with several research topics. We welcome further scientists who want to engage in PINA and its research projects! Currently, our team consists of the following:
Gerlind Große
Professor for early childhood education research, University of Applied Sciences Potsdam
Gerlind Große is a developmental psychologist and educational researcher. She conducts her research and teaches at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and is head of the joint “M.A. Early Childhood Research” programme at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the University of Potsdam. Her main interests are: 1) development in practical work and transfer, 2) development of communication and language, 3) socio-emotional development.

Frauke Hildebrandt
Professor for Early Childhood Research, University of Applied Sciences Potsdam
Frauke Hildebrandt teaches at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and is deputy head of the joint “M.A. Early Childhood Research” programme at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the University of Potsdam. She is head of several research projects. Her main research areas are quality in early education as well as educative interaction, participation and development of rationality.

Jan Lonnemann
Professor for Empirical Childhood Research, University of Potsdam
Jan Lonnemann works at the University of Potsdam and teaches in the programme “M.A. Early Childhood Research”. He is head of the department “Empirical Childhood Education” at the University of Potsdam. His main research interest are the foundations of the acquisition of reading and calculating abilities in school.

Birgit Elsner
Professor for Developmental Psychology, University of Potsdam
Birgit Elsner teaches and researches socio-cognitive development in early childhood and the relations between early childhood language acquisition and the development of non-linguistic cognitive abilities at the University of Potsdam. She also investigates how problems in controlling behaviours and regulating emotions, as well as theory of mind, influence development during primary school age, especially concerning aggressive behaviours and eating/weight problems. With Prof. Dr. Barbara Höhle, Prof. Dr. Elsner is head of the baby lab at the University of Potsdam.

Caroline Wronski

Caroline Wronski is lecturer/researcher at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. She teaches cognitive development in early childhood, which is also her main research interest.

Karoline Lohse is research associate and lecturer at the University of Potsdam. Her research focuses on the development of children’s temporal reasoning and the influence of social interactions on children’s learning.

Elena Sixtus

Elena Sixtus is a research associate in Empirical Childhood Research at the University of Potsdam and a lecturer in the master’s program in Early Childhood Education Research. Her research interests lie in the acquisition of number knowledge and the shared mental representation of space, time and numbers.

Jannis Bosch

Jannis Bosch is a research associate in the Department of Research Methods and Diagnostics at the University of Potsdam and a lecturer in the Master’s program in Early Childhood Education Research. His research interests lie in the area of experimental studies on the short-term influence of emotional-social experience.

Ramiro Glauer

Ramiro Glauer is a research associate in the GraPro at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. His research mainly focuses on basic early childhood cognitive development, especially object comprehension, perspective-taking, and linguistic development (demonstratives). He develops practice materials and formats for cognitively stimulating interactions between professionals and children.

Katrin Macha

Katrin Macha is a research associate in the EDIT project at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. She researches quality development in daycare centres from a child’s perspective, focusing on participation. She is also a director at the Institute for the Situational Approach at the International Academy Berlin gGmbH.

Bianka Pergande
Executive Director, Deutsche Liga für das Kind
Bianka Pergande was responsible for the BiKA project (participation in kindergarten interaction) at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and coordinated PINA. Her main interest is children’s rights. Moreover, she conducts studies on quality and participation in kindergartens. She is currently the managing director of the German League for the Child.

Juliane Burmester
Coordinator of KAI-project, iffe e.V. at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam & Referent at Duden Institute
Juliane Burmester was a research associate in the project EQUIP (Quality and Interaction in Everyday Pedagogy).Her research focuses on how elements of sustained shared thinking in adult-child-interactions influence children’s verbal behaviour. Moreover, she studies language comprehension and production using behavioural and electrophysiological methods. She is currently supporting two daycare centers in Berlin in the course of the KAI project (Cognitively Stimulating Interaction in Everyday Pedagogical Life).
Jasmin Bempreiksz-Luthardt
Academic Staff and site manager, International Center for Professionalization of Elementary Education Berlin
Jasmin Bempreiksz-Luthardt was an academic reseacher at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and is doing her doctorate in EQUIP subproject 2a on pre-school teachers’ beliefs about adult-child interaction in Kindergarden. In addition to processing innovations in educational institutions, she deals with questions about quality of pedagogical processes in the field of early childhood. Currently, she is a research associate and site manager in Berlin at the International Center for Professionalization of Elementary Education (PEP).

Ruben Maué

Ruben Maué was a research associate and project coordinator of EQUIP and EDIT. He evaluates in-service professional development programs for kindergarden employees. Specifically, he implements methods of social psychology to monitor attidue changes elicited by such programs. He is currently supporting the BeoKiz – project as a research assistant.

Gregor Kachel
Academic Staff, University of Leipzig
Gregor Kachel was a research associate and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. His research focuses on selective social learning in early peer interactions, gestural communication and the development of children’s symbolic competence. He currently heads the DFG project “Symbolic Literacy” at the University of Leipzig.
