We are looking for adults between 18 and 35 years to participate in an EEG study on language processing.

S T U D Y   I N F O R M A T I O N

Process:
Please make an appointment by email. A research associate from the University of Potsdam will attach a soft bathing cap with measuring plates (electrodes). Since the brain’s electrical activity that can be measured on the surface of the head is very weak, it is necessary to apply a special gel to each electrode, which creates contact between the scalp and the electrode. After that, you will be invited to perform a task on the computer. The EEG is recorded during the task processing. The EEG measures the brain’s electrical activity, which occurs during the transmission of stimuli from the nerve cells and can be measured on the scalp. The entire examination, including putting on the EEG cap, completing the tasks and taking several breaks, takes around 90 minutes. At the end of the test, the cap is removed, and you can wash the gel out of your hair on the spot. We provide everything you need (shampoo, towel, hair dryer). As an expense allowance, you will receive €12, which will be transferred to your bank account promptly after the examination. Participation is voluntary and can be cancelled at any time without consequences.

Who can participate?
We are conducting this study with monolingual, right-handed, native German-speaking adults. The form for the required written consent will be handed out directly before participating in the study. Exclusion criteria for the study are epilepsy, claustrophobia, people with pacemakers or hearing aids, and past or current neurological or psychiatric diseases.

Our research questions:
Please understand that we can only provide you with information on the background and questions of this study after the survey in order not to influence you before you participate. To this end, we fully explain all participants directly after their participation.

Data processing:
The data recorded by the computer is stored and evaluated in pseudonymised form after the survey, i.e. each study participant is assigned a test person number. This subject number allows the data to be assigned to the same person but not to a specific person. Individual data and the study results cannot be traced back to you.
